Why server location matters for Hytale
Hytale is real-time multiplayer. Location impacts combat feel, entity synchronization, player movement, and how “fair” interactions feel when players are spread across regions.
Responsiveness
Lower ping improves input feel, hit registration, and reduces “late” interactions.
Sync & desync
Better routing reduces rubber-banding and timing mismatches under load.
Retention
Players are far more likely to stick around when the server feels smooth and consistent.
Solve geography first (pick the best location for your players), then tune performance settings. Fixing location usually gives bigger results than tweaking minor config values.
Latency basics (distance, routing & peering)
Latency isn’t just physical distance. Routing quality, exchange proximity (IXPs), and congestion can make a “farther” location outperform a closer one.
Distance is the baseline
Closer is usually better, but it’s not the whole story-especially across borders/oceans.
Routing can surprise you
Backbone routes may take indirect paths. Strong hubs often win for mixed-region communities.
If your community spans multiple countries, your “best” location is usually the one with the most consistent routing for the majority-not necessarily the closest for a small minority.
Note that regardless of which location you choose your players connection can be interrupted by DDoS attacks. If this is effecting you, you may need to attach Hytale DDoS protection to your server to stay online and reachable.
Locations we offer & which regions they suit
Use these recommendations as a starting point. The best choice depends on where most players are located and whether your community is single-region or mixed-region.
Europe (UK, Western & Central)
North America
Asia-Pacific (APAC)
If >70% of your players are in one area, choose the closest regional location. If you’re mixed-region, choose a hub (Frankfurt, Dallas, Singapore) and optimize configs after. Get up and running instantly in any of these locations with our Hytale Hosting service.
Hytale Hosting in the USA
Best for North American communities. Choose based on where most players live and whether your server is coast-specific or mixed across the country.
When USA hosting is ideal
- Most players are in the US or Canada.
- You want consistent PvP/co-op feel for NA routing.
- Your community is mostly East, mostly West, or split across both.
Quick picking rules
- US East majority: choose an East hub (e.g., Virginia).
- US West majority: choose a West hub (e.g., Oregon).
- East + West mix: choose a central hub (e.g., Dallas) for balance.
If your player base is split, prioritize fairness. A central location often feels better overall than making one coast perfect and the other frustrating.
Hytale Hosting in Europe
Europe is great for multi-country communities. Central hubs usually win for mixed regions by keeping latency consistent across borders.
Best for mixed EU communities
- Players spread across Western/Central/Eastern Europe.
- You want stable routing across multiple countries.
- You’re optimizing for consistency (not one country only).
Quick picking rules
- UK/Ireland-heavy: London is usually best.
- EU-wide mix: Frankfurt is often the safest hub.
- France/Benelux-heavy: Roubaix/nearby Western hubs often fit well.
In Europe, routing can matter as much as distance. If your audience is spread, a central hub often beats a “closer” edge location for overall fairness.
Hytale Hosting in Asia-Pacific (Singapore, India & Australia)
APAC distances are larger, so region choice matters a lot. Pick local if you’re country-heavy, or use a hub if your community spans nearby regions.
Singapore
Best as a SEA hub for mixed nearby regions.
- Great for SEA communities and regional mixes.
- Often “good enough” for nearby APAC routing.
India
Best for India + South Asia player bases.
- Choose this when most players are in India/South Asia.
- Local hosting can be a night-and-day improvement.
Australia
Best for AU/NZ communities.
- Ideal for Oceania (AU/NZ) player bases.
- Not recommended for EU/NA-heavy communities.
If your players are split across SEA + Oceania, Singapore can be a workable compromise — but Australia will feel best for AU/NZ players. When in doubt, optimize for the majority.
Choosing a location for mixed-region servers
Global communities can’t make everyone perfectly happy. The goal is fairness and consistency-minimize extreme disadvantages and avoid “one group feels great, the other feels awful.”
Pick a central hub
Frankfurt (EU), Dallas (NA), Singapore (SEA) are usually best for mixed audiences.
Avoid edge choices
Edge regions are great locally but can punish remote players on timing-sensitive gameplay.
Scale by community
If you grow into multiple regions, consider multiple servers instead of forcing one global location.
After you pick your region, your next wins come from tuning entity limits, view/simulation settings, and networking parameters. That’s covered in the Hytale optimization guide.
